PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
The Philippine Community Center, Inc. participates and supports the various organizations and activities of Filipino and Asian organizations in North Texas. It also enjoys recognition from various government officials and entities. It is and has always been manned by volunteer members and officers. There is no paid staff. All of its successes are attributable to members who are driven by what they hold dear to their hearts – the Filipino Spirit of “bayanihan”!
COMMUNITY CENTER AND CULTURAL PROGRAM
Since its official stature as an IRS recognized non-profit organization, the Philippine Community Center, Inc. has always had an official office and assembly hall to serve as its physical center. The growth of PCCI and its adherence to community needs for activity venues can be seen in its progress from a leased center to that of a purchased building. PCCI has always looked upon itself as a vehicle for the promotion of the Filipino culture. It has therefore strived to showcase the Philippines, such as flag-raising activities in commemoration of Philippine Independence Day, dinner and a movie with Filipino films and Filipino songs and dances. Foremost is the conscious projection of famous Filipino women and leaders during its biennial major charity Mrs. Philippines of North Texas project.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
The Academic Achievement Awards was established in 1995 and is an annual project of the Philippine Community Center. While the main aim of this project is to give community recognition to graduating high school students of Filipino descent for their academic milestone, it has also achieved several other goals. It has served to invite the young Filipinos back to their Filipino community, by showing to them the community’s pride in their achievement and the hope that they, too, would in time give back to the community in whatever volunteer work they could. And, it has also focused on their parents’ love and hard work in getting these young graduates to the success that they now enjoy.
Depending on the number of graduates and on the approved funds, a financial award ranging from $250 to $1000 is given to each award recipient. To date, more than a hundred thousand dollars have been given to the graduates since the establishment of this program. Funding from the AAA comes from the Mrs. Philippines of North Texas Charity Fundraiser held biennially.

In 2104, PCCI evaluated an assessment of the effectivity of its achievement awards program. The results showed that there were already several Filipino organizations that had modeled themselves after PCCI’s academic awards program and there were so many other private and public award opportunities for our high school Filipino graduates. PCCI thus focused its attention on graduating high school student of Filipino descent who while maintaining good grades were also involved in volunteer service in Filipino organizations and endeavors.
In 2013, PCCI formally became a community partner of ABS-CBN Foundation International. Through this IRS-recognized foundation, PCCI has now been able to expand assistance to deserving underprivileged students and abused children through AFI’s Bantay-Bata (Child Watch) and Bantay Edukasyon (Scholarship) programs. PCCI currently sponsors college students in the Philippines.
MEDICAL OUTREACH AND HEALTH FAIR
One of the vital needs of every individual is affordable health care and health education. PCCI is mindful of this and has conducted yearly medical outreach and health fair events for free to those with no insurance benefits. PCCI partners with area hospitals in the DFW area such as Parkland Hospital, Methodist Hospital of Dallas, Komen Foundation and with individual members of the North Texas Association of Philippine Physicians. This community service benefits the under-privileged members of the community who are without health insurance. The Medical Outreach Program offers free mobile mammography, free prostate cancer blood test, cholesterol, diabetes blood sugar test, blood pressure checks and free consultations with our Filipino doctors, registered nurses and other medical volunteers.
PCCI has also revived its medical missions to the Philippines and has added a dental component to this program. Free medicines and nutritional supplements are distributed along with free health consultations with the local medical doctors. US and local volunteer dentists conduct free dental check-ups and tooth extractions. Areas targeted for these medical mission services are the poorest group in a given community.
